Again and again, I hear sensible, intelligent people, suggest that if they get their Will done, they may tempt fate – they may increase the chance of dying in the near future.
That’s illogical.
But if it’s a real belief, it’s going to be a real fear.
Somebody recently told me that for the last two years, since she understood the consequences of having no Will and so the Intestacy Rules applying, she has not slept well.
Why then, did she not make a Will two years ago? Well, like many, she has a super busy husband, a full life which revolves around their child’s needs, and there’s this nagging feeling that if she gets the Wills done, they might die.
I try to be delicate when I suggest that we will all die. And then the real reason comes out – “but I might die sooner, because of the act of getting the Wills done. My husband believes this too, I know he does.”
If you have this irrational fear, you’re not alone. But that doesn’t mean you should not deal with your Will. It means that you should probably deal with a professional who can deal with things as quickly and efficiently as you need them to, to get it all out of the way as soon as possible.
